Advocacy & Education

Advocacy and public education are essential to building communities where everyone is seen, valued, and included. By raising awareness, reducing stigma, and sharing accessible information, we help people understand their rights, access the supports they need, and participate more fully in community life. When our communities are informed and connected, they are better equipped to create inclusive environments for all Yukoners.

Advocacy

What is advocacy and why is it needed?

Advocacy helps protect the rights and well-being of people with disabilities in the Yukon. Many people with intellectual or developmental disabilities in the Yukon face barriers that make it harder to take part in community life. Advocacy works to improve accessibility, promote inclusion, and make sure people have real choices and opportunities.

By raising awareness, pushing for better policies, and offering support, advocacy helps removes barriers and create a Yukon where everyone can participate fully and with dignity. This work is essential to building a more inclusive community where people with disabilities have equal access to services, jobs, education, and recreation.

How can we help?

Inclusion Yukon has an advocate who can meet with you and support with finding resources or navigating systems in health care, housing, or education. There are many systems of ableism that can cause barriers for people who are neurodivergent, and our role in advocacy is to support you and amplify your experiences. We are happy to meet with you and see how we can help you the best that we can!

Education

Why does public education matter?

Public education helps build understanding, reduce stigma, and create communities where everyone feels welcome. Many people in the Yukon want to be inclusive, but may not know how to support people with disabilities or how ableism shows up in everyday systems. By sharing clear, accessible information, we help people see the role they can play in creating meaningful change.

Education is also an important part of systems change. When community members learn more about disability, accessibility, and inclusion, they can make choices that remove barriers, strengthen relationships, and make our community better for everyone. This work supports long-term change across the territory — not just for individuals, but for the systems that affect us all.
